An ARC Reviewer reads an “Advanced Reviewers/Readers Copy” of the just-about-to-be, or has-been, published book. Their review is public-facing and is intended to help promote the book to the public.

An ARC Reviewer can be:
- A friend or family member of the author,
- Another author,
- A fan of the author,
- An amateur who loves reading and giving reviews of books,
- An Alpha Reader
- A Beta Reader
- A professional ARC Reviewer who has a Social Media profile to promote their reviews
Each ARC Reviewer provides different levels/types of review, however, the general vibe is to give an honest review of how they liked (or disliked) the book. This type of feedback could include (one, some or all):
- Simply if they did or did not like the book.
- What specifically they did or did not like within the book.
- How the book compared to other books on the market.
- A simple star rating review left on Amazon or similar book review sites.
- A paragraph or two providing an overview of their thoughts on the book left on Amazon or similar book review sites.
- Dedicated Social Media posts about the book, such as a BookTok post, or a reading, or a full blog post.
- An ARC Review is not intended to provide feedback to the author so they can improve on their story.
An ARC Review occurs:
- The Author writes the first draft of the book.
- The author self-edits the book.
- An Alpha Reader reviews the book (if engaged by the Author) and the Author updates their feedback.
- A Beta Reader will read here.
- The Author will then update the feedback from the Beta Reader (or multiple Beta Readers).
- The Author may send the book out to more Beta Readers to provide feedback.
- Once the Author is happy with the story, they will either send it to their Professional Review Team (such as Proof Readers, Editors, Publishers, etc) for final feedback and will make changes as needed.
- Just before the book is to be published, the Author will send finalised copies to their ARC Reviewers for public opinion.
